About the tutor
My name is Gunnar Björn, and I am a qualified mathematician with teaching credentials. I have also completed additional postgraduate studies in statistics at the master’s level. I have decades of experience teaching mathematics and statistics, including at several upper secondary schools in Iceland. I place great importance on treating every student with respect and meeting them where they are.
I always try to explain things using language and terminology that the student is familiar with, as people have different levels of familiarity with mathematical concepts. Some students come to me with specific problems they would like us to work through together, while others want help understanding a particular topic. Everyone who is looking for help or would like to work with me is welcome.
It is very important to me that everyone feels comfortable and at ease during our lessons and interactions. No one knows everything, but everyone knows something. All you need to do is tell me what you would like help with, and I will guide you through what you need—or simply want—to learn.
Private Online Tutoring
I offer private tutoring online. You will receive an invitation to the online session by email. If you wish, the session can be recorded so that you can watch it again later and review the material at your own pace. Here you can see a recording from an online tutoring session in which I helped a student work through two different examples involving systems of equations.
In-Home Tutoring
I can come to your home and provide tutoring there. We can also meet at another agreed location, such as a café, library, or another place suggested by the student.
I generally do not charge extra for travel. I am based in Reykjanesbær, so travelling to students within the Reykjanes Peninsula or the Greater Reykjavík area is usually not a problem. If you live farther away, travel arrangements and any additional costs will need to be agreed upon separately. In such cases, online tutoring may be a more convenient option.
